SUMMARY:Introduction to Coppicing
DESCRIPTION:Coppicing is an ancient\, yet still highly relevant and sustain
 able form of silvicultural management. Cutting down stems in the winter\, 
 protecting them from browsing animals and allowing them to grow on in the 
 coming years. Perhaps the most sustainable of silvicultural practices and 
 what we\, at Dorset Coppice Group\, are all about.\n-\nSo come and spend t
 he day in the woods with us\, learning various ways of coppicing hazel\, a
 ssessing the condition &amp\; quality of coppice\, layering stems to form 
 new stools and an introduction into the uses of the rods that are harveste
 d.\n-\nThe course will involve using sharp hand tools and walking over rou
 gh terrain. Please wear suitable footwear and clothing suitable for the co
 nditions on the day (we will be going ahead regardless!).\n-\nPlaces are l
 imited so book early by emailing us at info@dorsetcoppicegroup.co.uk\n-\nC
 ost: £40 for non DCG members and £32 for DCG members.\n-\nThe course cos
 t will include tea\, coffee and biscuits\, but please bring your own packe
 d lunch.
