Courses

Dorset Coppice Group runs a series of courses each year on topics related to coppicing and coppice crafts.  These are open to both members & non-members alike, although members receive a 20% discount. The courses are run by experienced members who are skilled in the topic that they are teaching.  Details of upcoming courses can be found below.  Unless otherwise stated, all tools & materials will be provided along with refreshments.  Please bring your own packed lunch.

Charfest 2019

A unique opportunity to celebrate sustainably produced British charcoal. We’ll be demonstrating charcoal making techniques old and new – including earthburns, ring kilns, retorts and more! It should be a ‘smoking hot’ weekend! #cheesy #sorry

Insight into Hedgelaying

Learn the principles and basics of hedgelaying. You’ll learn about hedgerow management, when it appropriate to lay a hedge, what products you can derive from a hedge and the practicalities of pleaching & staking.  All tools provided.


Introduction to Coppicing

Learn the theory and principles of coppicing. We’ll cover both in-cycle hazel coppicing as well as coppice restoration.
