Introduction to Coppicing

When

December 2, 2023
10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Event Type

Coppicing is an ancient, yet still highly relevant and sustainable form of silvicultural management. Cutting down stems in the winter, protecting them from browsing animals and allowing them to grow on in the coming years. Perhaps the most sustainable of silvicultural practices and what we, at Dorset Coppice Group, are all about.
So come and spend the day in the woods with us, learning various ways of coppicing hazel, assessing the condition & quality of coppice, layering stems to form new stools and an introduction into the uses of the rods that are harvested.
The course will involve using sharp hand tools and walking over rough terrain. Please wear suitable footwear and clothing suitable for the conditions on the day (we will be going ahead regardless!).
Places are limited so book early by emailing us at info@dorsetcoppicegroup.co.uk
Cost: £40 for non DCG members and £32 for DCG members.
The course cost will include tea, coffee and biscuits, but please bring your own packed lunch.
