This course is a one day introduction to the art of splitting (or riving) hazel and how to make woven hazel hurdles.

The day’s course will start with learning the magical art of splitting hazel. We will then use the split wood to make a hurdle (or hurdles!).

The course will be run at The Living Classroom at Bonsley Wood but, if we are lucky enough with the weather, most of it will take place outside. All tools and materials will be supplied, but please do wear appropriate clothing and sensible footwear.

The course will start at 10am and finish around 4pm. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be supplied, but please bring your own packed lunch. The cost is £75 for non-members and £60 for members. There are limited places, so please book early at info@dorsetcoppicegroup.co.uk.

Your tutor for the day will be DCG’s Chair, David Ewers. David is a full-time coppice & green woodworker and is one of only a few commercial hurdle makers still practising the art in Dorset.
